Connecting Your Account to Clever

This article walks through connecting your Clever account to your PaperScorer account, and covers common connection issues.

Enterprise feature. Clever integration is available to enterprise PaperScorer customers whose district has PaperScorer enabled in their Clever Library. If you’re on a free or Teacher Pro account and want LMS sync, see Connecting Your Account to Google Classroom.

NOTE: Clever is primarily a roster and identity source. Unlike Canvas, Brightspace, or Google Classroom, Clever does not have a grade book, so PaperScorer doesn’t push grades back into Clever — the Clever connection is used for class and roster imports only.

Starting the Connection

From any page in the application, click the create button and select the Class option.

You’ll be presented with a modal to choose how to create the new class. Select the Clever import option. (You may see additional options depending on which other accounts your institution has connected.)

You’ll see information about connecting your Clever account. (If your account is already connected, you’ll instead see the import-classes view — covered in a separate article.) When you’re ready, click Connect Clever.

You’ll be taken to Clever’s sign-in screen. Sign in with your school-provided Clever credentials. (If you’re already signed in to Clever, you may be redirected back to PaperScorer immediately.)

Because you’re linking a new identity to an existing PaperScorer account, PaperScorer will ask you to confirm your PaperScorer password. This is a security check to ensure the Clever account is being linked by the actual account owner. After confirming, you’ll be returned to the PaperScorer home page with your Clever account connected.

Troubleshooting

The “Clever import” option doesn’t appear when creating a class.

The Clever option only appears if your district’s PaperScorer enterprise plan has Clever enabled. Confirm with your district administrator or contact PaperScorer support.

I can sign in to Clever, but PaperScorer says my district isn’t connected.

Your district has Clever accounts but hasn’t yet enabled PaperScorer through the Clever Library. A district administrator needs to approve PaperScorer in the district’s Clever dashboard before individual teachers can connect. Contact PaperScorer support if you’re not sure how to proceed.

Clever sign-in succeeds, but I’m redirected back to the connect screen without the connection completing.

This usually means the password confirmation step was skipped or canceled. Try again and complete the password prompt to finish linking. If you signed up to PaperScorer via Google or another SSO provider and don’t have a PaperScorer password, set one from your account settings first, then retry the Clever connect.

I see an error about district authorization.

Clever distinguishes between district-shared and teacher-shared apps. PaperScorer must be authorized at the district level for teachers to connect. The district’s Clever administrator can grant this in the district’s Clever dashboard.

If problems persist, contact PaperScorer support with a screenshot of the error.
