Connecting Your Account to Canvas
This article walks through connecting your Canvas account to your PaperScorer account, explains the permissions Canvas grants, and covers common connection issues.
Enterprise feature. Canvas integration is available to enterprise PaperScorer customers. If you’re on a free or Teacher Pro account and want LMS sync, see Connecting Your Account to Google Classroom.
NOTE: Your Canvas administrator must complete the initial Canvas-side setup before individual users can connect. If the steps below don’t work for you, ask your Canvas administrator to verify they’ve completed the required Canvas administration setup.
Starting the Connection
From any page in the application, click the create button and select the Class option.

You’ll be presented with a modal to choose how to create the new class. Select the Canvas import option. (You may see additional options depending on which other accounts your institution has connected.)

You’ll see information about connecting your Canvas account. (If your account is already connected, you’ll instead see the import-classes view — covered in a separate article.) Enter the domain URL for your Canvas instance (e.g. paperscorer.instructure.com ) and click Connect Canvas.

If you aren’t already signed in to Canvas, you’ll be prompted to sign in. After signing in, you’ll see a Canvas authorization screen. Click Authorize to complete the connection.

After clicking authorize, you’ll be redirected back to PaperScorer with your Canvas account connected.
Troubleshooting
I get an error after entering my Canvas domain.
Check that the domain is correct and includes the full subdomain (e.g. paperscorer.instructure.com , not just instructure.com ). Don’t include http:// or https:// — just the domain itself.
The Canvas authorization screen shows a “developer key not found” or similar error.
Your Canvas administrator hasn’t yet completed the initial Canvas-side setup, or the connection has been deactivated. Share the administration setup guide with them.
I see “invalid scope” or scope-related errors.
Your Canvas administrator may have “Force Scopes” enabled on the developer key. PaperScorer expects Force Scopes to be turned off so we can pick up scope changes as our product evolves. Ask your administrator to confirm the setting.
I’m redirected to the wrong page after authorizing.
Check with your Canvas administrator that the redirect URI on the developer key is set to https://app.paperscorer.com/canvas/connect .
If problems persist, contact PaperScorer support with a screenshot of the error.
