Switch a Student's Assessment Version
This article walks through switching a student’s assessment version after their sheet has been scanned. Useful if a student received the wrong version sheet, or if you re-organize versions after some scans are already in.
As a teacher, you can change a student’s assessment version at any time. There are two entry points: the assessment student list, and the grading view.
From the Assessment Student List
From the assessment list, open the assessment’s action menu and click View students — or click the student count cell directly on the row.

On the assessment student list, open the student’s action menu and select Switch version.

A modal will pop up with the version options. Select the version you want to assign and click Switch.

From the Grading View
From the assessment list, open the assessment’s action menu and click View grading.

On the grading view, open the student’s action menu and select Switch version. The same switch version modal will pop up — pick the new version and click Switch.

NOTE: Once the version is switched, the student is automatically queued for re-scoring against the new version’s answers. The recalculation usually completes in a few moments. The scan history, captured bubble data, and written-response images stay the same — only the answer key being applied to them changes.
Frequently Asked Questions
When would I need to switch a student’s version?
Most often: a student received the wrong physical sheet on test day (handed Version 1 when they were supposed to get Version 2). Less commonly: you reorganized your version setup after some scans were already in.
Can I undo a version switch?
Yes — switch the student back to the original version. The re-scoring runs again against the original answers.
Will the student’s captured bubble responses be lost?
No. The captured bubble data and written-response images are independent of the version. Switching versions only changes which answer key is applied during scoring, not what was scanned.
Can I switch multiple students at once?
Not as a single bulk action today. If you have a group of students who all need to be on the same different version, switch them one at a time from the student list.
What happens to written-response questions when I switch versions?
Written responses are manually graded and aren’t affected by the answer key. The manual scores stay attached to the student’s responses regardless of which version they’re on.
