Disconnecting Your Brightspace Account
This article covers how to disconnect your Brightspace account from PaperScorer, and answers common questions about what happens when you do.
Enterprise feature. Brightspace integration is available to enterprise PaperScorer customers.
How to Disconnect
From any page in the application, click your profile image in the top-right corner to open the account menu, then click Manage Your Account.

From your account page, click Connected accounts in the left navigation. Then, to disconnect:
- Check the box confirming you wish to disconnect your Brightspace account.
- Click Confirm disassociation.

PaperScorer will no longer have access to your Brightspace data. You can reconnect at any time using the same flow as the initial setup.
What Disconnecting Does (and Doesn’t Do)
Disconnecting only removes the link between the two systems. It does not delete data on either side.
- OAuth access is revoked. PaperScorer can no longer read your Brightspace rosters or push grades.
- Imported classes and students stay in PaperScorer. They remain available for printing, scanning, and grading just as before.
- Previously synced grades stay in Brightspace. Anything you synced before disconnecting remains in the grade book there.
- Your institution’s Brightspace connection is unaffected. Disconnecting your own account does not remove the institution-level connection your administrator set up — other users can still connect.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to re-import my classes when I reconnect?
No. Your existing PaperScorer classes stay where they are. You’d only re-import to pull a fresh roster from Brightspace (for example, after students were enrolled or unenrolled).
Will already-synced grades disappear from Brightspace?
No. Disconnecting only stops future updates. Anything that was already pushed to your Brightspace grade book stays there.
Can I reconnect using a different Brightspace account?
Yes, but classes that were imported under your previous Brightspace account stay tied to their original Brightspace IDs. The new Brightspace account must also have teacher access to those classes for future syncs to succeed.
I was disconnected without doing anything — what happened?
Brightspace invalidates the refresh token every time it’s rotated. If a refresh fails on PaperScorer’s side, you’ll be prompted to reconnect. This is normal Brightspace behavior — not a real disconnect, just a re-authorization step.
My administrator deactivated the institution’s Brightspace connection — what happens to me?
You’ll lose access to Brightspace-related actions in PaperScorer the next time you try to use them. Your imported classes and students stay, and any already-synced grades remain in Brightspace; you simply can’t make new connections or push new syncs until the institution’s connection is reactivated.
I’m having trouble reconnecting — what should I check?
First, verify that your institution’s Brightspace connection is still active in PaperScorer (your administrator can confirm). Then make sure you’re signing in with the correct Brightspace account that has access to the courses you want to use. Contact PaperScorer support if problems persist.
