Tips & Tricks for Bulk Uploads
This article will cover best practices for scanning & uploading bulk testing sheets. We will go over how to be as successful as possible when getting your sheets scanned properly into PaperScorer.
Bulk uploading can save a tremendous amount of time—especially when scanning large batches of testing sheets. Following these best practices will help ensure faster processing, fewer errors, and more accurate results.
1. Keep Pages Flat and Smooth
Before scanning, remove staples and unfold any creases as much as possible. While the new engine is more durable and forgiving, flatter pages always improve consistency and speed.
2. Use High-Quality Scans
Scan at 300 DPI in black and white (preferred) or grayscale. Avoid low-resolution settings, as they can reduce clarity around answer bubbles and student ID fields.
3. Export as a Single PDF
When bulk uploading, combine all testing sheets into one PDF file. Double-check page orientation before exporting.
4. Ensure Correct Orientation
All pages should be uploaded right-side up. Mixed orientations within a PDF can slow down processing or require manual review.
5. Avoid Heavy Shadows
If using a feeder scanner, make sure there are no dark shadows near edges. Clean scanner glass regularly to prevent streaks or marks that could interfere with detection.
6. Review Student IDs Before Scanning
Even though the new engine allows reassignment later, encouraging students to clearly and fully bubble their IDs reduces post-upload review time.
7. Don’t Over-Compress Files
Avoid aggressive PDF compression tools that reduce image clarity. Smaller files are helpful—but clarity is more important than size.
8. Spot-Check Before Bulk Scanning
Scan 1–2 sheets first and upload them to confirm everything looks correct. Once verified, proceed with the full batch.
