Connecting Your Account to Brightspace
This article walks through connecting your Brightspace account to your PaperScorer account, and covers common connection issues.
Enterprise feature. Brightspace integration is available to enterprise PaperScorer customers. If you’re on a free or Teacher Pro account and want LMS sync, see Connecting Your Account to Google Classroom.
NOTE: Your Brightspace administrator must complete the initial Brightspace-side setup before individual users can connect. If the steps below don’t work for you, ask your administrator to verify they’ve completed the required Brightspace administration setup.
Starting the Connection
From any page in the application, click the create button and select the Class option.

You’ll be presented with a modal to choose how to create the new class. Select the Brightspace import option. (You may see additional options depending on which other accounts your institution has connected.)

You’ll see information about connecting your Brightspace account. (If your account is already connected, you’ll instead see the import-classes view — covered in a separate article.) Enter the domain URL for your Brightspace instance (e.g. paperscorer.d2l-partners.brightspace.com ) and click Connect Brightspace.

If you aren’t already signed in to Brightspace, you’ll be prompted to sign in. After signing in, you’ll see the Brightspace authorization screen. Click Authorize to complete the connection.

After clicking authorize, you’ll be redirected back to PaperScorer with your Brightspace account connected.
Troubleshooting
I get an error after entering my Brightspace domain.
Check that the domain is correct and includes the full subdomain (e.g. paperscorer.d2l-partners.brightspace.com , not just brightspace.com ). Don’t include http:// or https:// — just the domain.
The Brightspace authorization screen shows an “invalid client” or “client not found” error.
Your Brightspace administrator hasn’t yet completed the initial Brightspace-side setup, or the OAuth 2.0 application has been deleted. Share the administration setup guide with them.
I see “invalid scope” or scope-related errors.
The scope list on the OAuth application doesn’t match what PaperScorer requests. Your Brightspace administrator should re-check the registered scopes against the list in the administration setup guide.
I’m redirected to the wrong page after authorizing.
Check with your Brightspace administrator that the redirect URI on the OAuth application is set to https://app.paperscorer.com/brightspace/connect .
I was connected before but now I’m being asked to reconnect.
Brightspace invalidates the refresh token every time it’s used. If PaperScorer’s stored token state is ever lost, or if you go a long time without syncing, you may be asked to reconnect. This is normal Brightspace behavior — just walk through the connection flow again.
If problems persist, contact PaperScorer support with a screenshot of the error.
